ANNOUNCING AUDITIONS FOR JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR

WHEN: Saturday November 15, 11am-4pm Singing slots (Dance Call 5pm)

Sunday November 16, 4pm-7pm Singing slots (Dance Call 7:30pm)

Monday November 17, (Invite Only Callbacks), 6:30-10pm

WHERE: Playhouse on the Square, 66 South Cooper Street, 38104

CASTING: Actor/Singer/Dancers, Ages 18 and up, ALL races, sizes, and identities welcomed and encouraged to attend.  Full character descriptions can be found below.

PLEASE PREPARE: A song from the show as indicated in the character description below, as well as 32 bars of an alternate contrasting song.  Singers will be asked to sing only 32 bars from the show song first, but they may be any 32 bars of the Directors’ choosing, so please be prepared for the whole song.  Please bring piano sheet music for both the show song, and the contrasting song - an accompanist will be provided.  Actors MAY be asked to speak their audition songs as monologues either in the initial audition or the invited callback.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS / AUDITION MATERIAL

·       Jesus (male-presenting) - Rock Tenor / Baritone // Leader of the twelve Apostles, a man, called the “Son of God” and the “King of the Jews” // Audition Song: I Only Want to Say (Gethsemane)

·       Judas (male-presenting) - Rock Tenor // Arguably the antagonist of the show. One of the twelve apostles of Jesus; concerned for the poor and the consequences of Jesus’ fame. // Audition Song: Heaven on Their Minds

·       Mary Magdalene (female-presenting) - Belter / Mezzo / Alto // A female follower of Jesus who finds herself falling in love with Him. The role requires an actress that can show grace, stability, vulnerability, and compassion. // Audition Song: I Don’t Know How to Love Him

·       Pilate (male-presenting) - Rock Baritone / BariTenor // Governor of Judea who foresees the events of Jesus crucifixion from beginning to aftermath in a dream and finds himself being presented with that very situation. // Audition Song: Pilate & Christ

·       King Herod (male-presenting) - High Baritone // The King of Galilee; Jesus is brought to him for judgment after first being taken to Pilate. // Audition Song: King Herod’s Song

·       Peter (male-presenting) - Tenor / BariTenor // One of Jesus’ twelve apostles who denied Jesus three times on the night of Jesus’ arrest to save himself. // Audition Song: Peter’s Denial

·       Simon (male-presenting) - Tenor / BariTenor // One of Jesus twelve apostles; urges Jesus to lead his followers into battle against the Romans. // Audition Song: Simon Zealotes

·       Caiaphas (male-presenting) - Low Bass with Rocky Top / Bass / Baritone // High priest who sees Jesus as a threat to the nation. // Audition Song: This Jesus Must Die

·       Annas (male-presenting) - High Baritone / CounterTenor // Fellow priest at the side of Caiaphas who is persuaded by Caiaphas into seeing Jesus as a threat. // Audition Song: This Jesus Must Die

·       Ensemble (male-presenting) - Must be strong movers who have contemporary dance experience AND good rock / pop sounds. // Audition Song: Simon Zealotes OR This Jesus Must Die
